Building Energy Science and Technology laboratory (BEST)

The objective of this laboratory is to facilitate conduct of research and undertaking of professional assignments on energy science and energy technology of buildings as well as to conduct of research on low energy buildings that will support implementation of energy conservation programs for buildings in Thailand and Regional Country Group.

 Research Publication

Theme 1: Energy Efficient Building Systems and Components
                 (Contact person: Dr. Pipat Chaiwiwatworakul)
  • Research on thermal performance and cost-effectiveness of building facade and envelope that enclose spaces used to serve commercial functions and residential functions and are cooled by conventional air-conditioning systems
  • Research on efficient electric lighting
  • Research on efficient conventional air-conditioning

Theme 2: Shading of Windows and Daylighting
                 (Contact person: Prof. Dr. Surapong Chirarattananon)
  • Research on comparative performance and cost effectiveness of external shading, shading between two glass panes, and internal shading of solar radiation and daylighting through building facades
  • Research on comparative performance and cost effectiveness of daylighting through various light pipe configurations
  • Research on integration of daylighting and electric lighting and overall lighting quality of a space,
  • Research intensity distribution of luminaires comprising LEDs and other devices
  • Research on promotion of suitable shading and daylighting methods by accrediting the use of such devices and design in building energy code and labeling programs

Theme 3: Development of Energy Code and Labeling Scheme
                 (Contact person: Prof. Dr. Surapong Chirarattananon)
  • Research to upgrade building energy code of Thailand that incorporates results from the two themes above
  • Research to develop building energy labeling program that incorporates energy efficiency requirements higher than the code requirements and that utilizes results from the two themes above

Theme 4: Radiant Cooling and Solar Cooling and Dehumidification

  • Research and demonstration on application of radiant cooling in residential and commercial buildings
  • Research and demonstration of application of solar cooling and solar dehumidification
