Combination of ASEAN Workshop on Waste-to-Energy and Bioenergy Technology

During 30 May – 3 June 2016, JGSEE-CEE in collaboration with KMUTT successfully organised A Combination of ASEAN Workshop on “Waste to Energy and Bioenergy Technology” at KMUTT. The workshop aimed at providing knowledge and practical experiences (case-studies) on energy from biomass and energy from waste to ASEAN participants. Opportunities to identify joint projects and joint thesis collaborations for graduate students were also discussed.

The first workshop on Waste-to-energy was held during 30-31 May 2016 at the main campus of KMUTT. Sessions of the event focused on concepts, technologies and problem solving, and were contributed by experts from JGSEE-CEE, invited speakers from the University of Seoul, Korea, and experts from the NIES-KU-KMUTT Collaborative Research Laboratory.

On 1 June 2016, participants of the workshop were invited to attend a couple of sessions on “Sustainable Bio-economy” and “Innovative Solution for Waste-to-Energy” as part of the 12th edition of Renewable Energy Asia 2016.

The second workshop on “Bioenergy Technology” was held during 2-3 June 2016 at the Bangkhuntien Campus of KMUTT. The topics covered included some overview on bioenergy, biomass resources assessment and characterisation, biofuels, biogas, pretreatment of bioenergy, thermo-chemical conversion technology and some aspects related to sustainability assessment. Experts from JGSEE and invited speakers from KMUTT, CIRAD and Chulalongkorn University contributed to this workshop. Also, participants of the workshop had an opportunity to visit the biogas laboratory and pilot plant of ECOWASTE (KMUTT) and JGSEE’s laboratory facilities and pilot plant.

The workshop gathered over 20 participants from Thailand and ASEAN countries, including, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
