Dr Suneerat Fukuda delivers lecture on Renewable Energy Development in GMS at the Mekong Institute

Assoc Prof Dr Suneerat Fukuda, Chairperson of Energy Division, JGSEE-CEE, was invited by the Mekong Institute to give a lecture on “Renewable Energy Development in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) during 30-31 March 2017. The event was held at the Mekong Institute, Khon Kaen Province. This lecture was part of a 2-week “Regional Training on Renewable Energy in the GMS” program, which aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of government officials and professionals from academic and research institutions in renewable energy development, utilisation and promotional policies across GMS countries.

Twenty-five delegates from six GMS countries (namely Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam) participated to the training. During the lecture, Dr Suneerat gave a brief status update on RE development and potentials in the GMS for specific technologies, including, solar, wind, hydro, biomass and biogas. A number of case-studies and good practices were discussed followed by RE management and finance. Dr Suneerat also led the participants to conduct a SWOT analysis about potential RE technologies that could be considered in their respective countries and provide policy recommendations.
