Guide to admissions

Eligibility to apply

To be eligible for the Joint Graduate School Energy and Environment, you must comply with the following requirements:

MSc program: applicants must hold a first degree in engineering, science, economics, technology, agriculture or related fields with a minimum GPA of 2.50, or be ranked in the top 25% of the class. Applicants with other qualifications may be admitted on a case-by-case basis based on approval from the JGSEE’s Executive Committee.

MEng program: applicants must hold a first degree in engineering with a minimum GPA of 2.50, or be ranked in the top 25% of the class. Applicants with other qualifications may be admitted on a case-by-case basis based on approval from the JGSEE’s Executive Committee.

PhD program: applicants must hold a first degree in science, engineering, or technology with a GPA of at least 3.25 out of 4.00. Other applicants may be admitted on a case-by-case basis based on approval from the JGSEE’s interview committee.

The Application Process

Finding a Research Topic

A research topic is to be identified by the applicant along with the name of a suitable supervisor. Consultation can be done with the head of department and the academic service section (topics can be identified by looking at the JGSEE’s research groups)

Contacting a Supervisor

Before applying, applicants should contact their would-be advisor based on the research topic identified.

Note: The approached supervisor may be attached to any one of the 5 universities in the consortium. When selecting a research topic and an advisor, please check the name of the university the approached supervisor is attached to. This will be the place where the thesis research work will be undertaken.

Preparing Documents

In order to complete the application process, the following is required:

  1. Online Admission
  2. 1 Recent photograph of 1-inch size
  3. Transcript (if incomplete, a certification letter is required)
  4. ID Card or copy of passport (ID page)
  5. 3 letters of recommendation
  6. Interview evaluation form (for an approached supervisor only)
  7. Tentative proposal
  8. Publication (s) (if any)
  9. English language proficiency proof

Interview or Consideration via Documents

All applicants are to be Interviewed or considered via documents by the JGSEE’s committees based on the admission schedule.

Receiving an Admission Decision
