Japan-Thailand SATREPS Project: DTF and TGA Training in Japan

During 14-27 June 2015, Dr Supachita Krerkkaiwan and Ms Sasithorn Buranatrevedhya, researchers under the Japan-Thailand SATREPES project, attended a training course on “Study of Pyrolysis and Gasification of Low Rank Coals and Biomass using a Drop Tube Furnace (DTF) and Thermo-gravimetric Analyzer (TGA)” at the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI) and Kyoto University in Japan.

The principles and operation of DTF for combustion and gasification of low rank fuels were studied under the guidance of Mr Satoshi Umemoto and his team at CRIEPI. Also, training on TGA equipped steam injection to investigate the kinetic for steam gasification of coal/biomass was performed under the supervision of Prof Kouichi Miura at the Institute of Advanced Energy at Kyoto University.

This training course was very useful and will help for the operation of a similar type of DTF rector which is planned to be installed at JGSEE in December 2015.
