Visit of Sugarcane Delegation from the Philippines

On 26 January 2016, delegates from the Philippines visited JGSEE-CEE to exchange information on sugarcane and discuss possibilities of co-research on sugarcane. To start the event, Assoc Prof Dr Sirintornthep Towprayoon (director of JGSEE) delivered some Welcome Remarks. Dr Rosemarie S Gumera, Manager III of the Planning and Policy Department, Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), introduced the delegation from the Philippines. MA. Regina Bautista-Martin from SRA then briefly introduced the Philippines sugarcane industry situation and current initiatives from the government to improve competitiveness. Then, Assoc Prof Dr Savitri Garivait (Chairperson of the Environment Department at JGSEE) introduced JGSEE and its research laboratories, and the research activities performed on biomass and bioenergy in Thailand. Asst Prof Dr Thapat Silalertruksa, a LCSAL Researcher (JGSEE), then delivered a presentation on “Sustainability Assessment of Sugarcane Complex for Enhancing Competitiveness of the Thai Sugarcane Industry”. A discussion followed between the Philippines’ delegation and JGSEE to identify potential directions for future research collaboration on sugarcane.
