Waste-to-Energy Workshop in Thailand 2016

JGSEE-CEE, KMUTT in collaboration with the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ), successfully organized the Waste-to-Energy Workshop in Thailand 2016 during 10 – 11 March at VIE Hotel Bangkok. The aim of the workshop was to share knowledge and experiences on waste-to-energy technology in Japan.

Mr Hajime Aoki, Senior Coordinator of IEEJ, delivered a welcome remark and Assoc Prof Dr Sirintornthep Towprayoon, director of JGSEE, an opening remark. During the workshop, Ms Pisamai Sathienyanon, a Renewable Energy Expert from the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, Ministry of Energy, Thailand, talked about the energy situation and 3 energy-plans of Thailand including 1) the Power Development Plan (PDP 2015), 2) the Alternative Energy Development Plan (AEDP 2015), and 3) the Energy Efficiency Development Plan (EEDP 2015). Mr Suwan Nanthasarut, the Deputy Director General of Pollution Control Department (PCD), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Thailand, presented about the waste situation in Thailand including the quantity generated, its composition and current management as well as the roadmap master plan for solid waste management in the country.
A panel discussion was held during the workshop to favor the exchange of information and recommendations between Thai and Japanese experts on waste. Some discussions were held regarding the issue of waste incineration in Thailand with contributions from Ms Chularat Raingsa from the Industrial Waste Management Bureau, Department of Industrial Works, Ms Pisamai Sathienyanon and Mr Suwan Nanthasarut. Following the various discussions and issues raised by Thai representatives during the panel, experts from Japan, including, Mr Akira Kawanishi, Mr Hiroshi Yamane from the Clean Authority of Tokyo and Mr Naoto Sagawa from IEEJ, provided suggestions and recommendations for improvement.

The workshop was a great success gathering over 50 representatives from the academic and governmental sector from Thailand and Japan.
